What is goldfilled?
It is a lamination of gold and #230 brass. The ratio of precious to composition metal, by weight, is expressed with a percentage. Our gold laminates are stocked in 1/20-12K, 1/20-14K, 1/10-14K, and 1/10-10K. Since the precious metal layer is thin, care must be taken not to burn or polish through it when soldering or buffing. For the best finished appearance, the jewelry should be plated after all other finishing has been done. In handling this material, we attempt to label only the precious side with gauge marks. When in doubt, a drop of concentrated nitric acid can be used to test. The acid will have a greenish, boiling reaction on the composition metal, and little reaction to the gold.

Jen-Ken Kilns
Our customized Model #AF3P 11/6 is a multi-purpose brick kiln you’ll use for one project after another. Robust electronics support a maximum temperature of 1800°F, suitable for firing metal clay, glass, enamels, and more. This same model is available with a bead door, a window, or both, by special order.
This compact brick kiln has handles for portability, but constant travel is not recommended.
Set-and-forget operations are made possible by the Orton digital controller. 20 different firing schedules are pre-programmed, and blank slots are provided for your own unique firing schedules. All programs are easily editable for fine-tuning. The single heating element is wrapped around the interior twice. Copper and bronze artists will appreciate the way this kiln heats evenly from all sides.

The kiln is warranted to be free from defects in materials and workmanship when used under normal and proper conditions, for a period of two years. Manufacturer recommends setting kiln on a 16x16” stepping stone, available from your local home center for around $5.
